Nick Boles MP & Caroline Spelman MP are briefed on Solihulls £150m regeneration project

Nick Boles, Under Secretary of State with special responsibility for planning policy and communities was invited by Caroline Spelman MP to visit the ongoing £150m regeneration project in North Solihull.  Nick was taken to the new village centre in Smiths Wood to see new housing,the new schools and the site of the new GPs surgery funding for which was confirmed by NHS England only this week.

Nick was also able to see for himself the upgrading of the heating and cladding systems on two tower blocks which uses a Biomas fuel system to reduce energy costs to the residents.

Conservative led Solihull Council has maintained its committment to North Solihull regeneration despite a range of difficulties is securing ongoing funding.

Shirley Baptist Church re-opens after refurbishment

Julian Knight, Prospective MP for Solihull & Shirley East Conservative Councillors Mark Parker & Karen Grinsell attended the grand opening of the newly refurbished Shirley Baptist Church on Sunday 3rd November 2013.Cllr Mark Parker said “It was a pleasure to attend the opening and to see well over 200 people attend to celebrate the newly built facilities that will serve the Church, it's members and the wider community for many years to come. It is a fitting tribute to the hard work in planning and fund raising over many years. It will be a superb asset for the residents of Shirley”. 

Julian Knight & Councillor Robert Hulland to fight cuts to Solihull bus service

Julian Knight and Silhill local councillor, Robert Hulland have reacted with anger to the proposal of Centro, owned by National Express, to sever the vital bus link between Solihull town centre and Heartlands Hospital.For years Centro has been running direct buses from Solihull to Heartlands hospital, which has proved a vital lifeline to visitors and patients alike.But from next month, Centro is to enter a 12 week consultation on whether to end this direct bus service.  

More light at the end of the tunnel on Garden Squares in Dickens Heath

We have previously reported that there was ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ in respect of completion of the Garden Squares and other works in Dickens Heath. Cllr Ken Hawkins and local campaigner,Richard Holt, who is also Chairman of Dickens Heath Parish Council, joined forces to put pressure on the liquidators to progressthe talks on engaging a development partner to complete the sites.

Julian Knight takes to the Tills in Shirley!

Julian Knight, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull and Olton resident, took to the till on Saturday at The Anchor Charity Shop on the Stratford Road in Shirley.Julian and his fiancée Philippa, volunteered to work in the shop to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Boys Brigade – the Anchor shop is the retail arm of the Boys Brigade. Julian also wanted to encourage people to come and Shop in Shirley, as part of an on-going campaign.

Julian Knight & local Estate Agent hail Help to Buy Scheme

Julian Knight, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate and Money and Property Editor of the Independent has said that the launch of phase two of the government's “Help to Buy” scheme should "kick start the housing market in Solihull".Julian, who has written about property for a national newspaper, and has been an expert on TV programmes, is a supporter of the Help to Buy Scheme.Julian said "Getting young people onto the housing ladder in Solihull is crucial for health of the whole market. First time buyers are the life blood of the property market in Solihull, and ultimately without them people further up the ladder will not be able to sell their homes.  Solihull has amongst the highest percentage of homeowners in the country and this new Government scheme will make it easier for parents to see their children onto the ladder.”

Julian Knight welcomes the work programme for the unemployed

Julian Knight, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Solihull has talked about his own difficult upbringing whilst welcoming the government's new work programme for the unemployed.

The scheme will see the very long term unemployed given three options to join a work voluntary work programme, attend a job centre on a daily basis so to view new vacancies, or for those with mental health and alcohol issues they can get targeted help to give them a path to work. 

Julian Knight calls for action over nuisance bikers on Elmdon footpaths

Concerned Elmdon residents and campaigners have asked Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Julian Knight, for help fighting the scourge of nuisance bikers using local footpaths as their own private race tracks.Elmdon residents have reported that they have often had to duck to the side of paths in order to avoid being hit by youths on bicycles.  Some of the victims of this anti-social behaviour have been mothers with pushchairs.  Having investigated the menace and seen evidence of dangerous cycling, Julian Knight is calling for urgent action.
